Drug & Alcohol Recovery and Reform Program

The Alcohol and Drugs Recovery and Reform Program is designed for individuals seeking to address the connection between substance use, decision-making, and behavioural patterns that contribute to risk or offending.

This 16 week one-to-one program provides a structured, confidential space to explore triggers, develop insight, and build strategies for recovery and accountability.

Participants learn relapse prevention techniques, emotional regulation, and harm-reduction skills through weekly or fortnightly Telehealth sessions.

Flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends that supports sustainable participation, ensuring individuals can engage meaningfully in their recovery and reform while meeting personal or legal commitments.

Program Outline

Program Duration: 16 weeks

The Alcohol and Drugs Recovery and Reform Program is a structured, evidence-informed intervention designed for individuals seeking to address the underlying psychological, emotional, and social factors that contribute to substance use and related offending behaviours.

The program integrates clinical best practice, self-assessment tools, and personalised behavioural planning. It provides participants with the insight, strategies, and structure required to make sustainable change.

A comprehensive approach combines:

  • Psychoeducation (understanding addiction and its impact)

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) frameworks for thought and behaviour change

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) to enhance engagement and accountability

  • Relapse Prevention Planning (RPP)

  • Culturally informed and trauma-aware practice

Program Objectives

  1. Support participants to understand the cycle of addiction and its connection to risk-taking and offending.

  2. Develop insight into the impact of substance use on family, victims, and community.

  3. Equip participants with evidence-based strategies for harm reduction and relapse prevention.

  4. Strengthen self-regulation, emotional control, and decision-making.

  5. Promote accountability and readiness for change through structured self-reflection and reporting.

Topics Covered

Weeks 1–4: Awareness and Insight

  • Substance use and the brain: understanding triggers and cravings.

  • The cycle of use, harm, and recovery.

  • Self-assessment using the ASSIST (Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test).

  • Exploring personal values, motivation, and readiness to change (using the RTCQ).

Weeks 5–8: Understanding Behaviour and Consequences

  • Cognitive-behavioural patterns linked to risk and relapse.

  • Psychological distress and self-management (measured via the K10).

  • Emotional regulation and impulse control.

  • The impact of addiction on relationships, employment, and community standing.

Weeks 9–12: Skill Building and Accountability

  • Relapse prevention and coping strategy development.

  • Practical harm-reduction planning.

  • Rebuilding trust and integrity through accountable decision-making.

  • Completing Behavioural Insight Worksheets and Session Reflection Forms.

Weeks 13–16: Integration and Future Planning

  • Long-term recovery goals and support network mapping.

  • Managing triggers and high-risk environments.

  • Developing a personal relapse prevention plan.

  • Completion of Readiness for Recovery Re-Assessment and final feedback interview.

 

Assessment and Monitoring Tools

Participants complete a combination of standardised clinical tools and structured reflections aligned with Australian AOD best practice:

  • ASSIST (Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test)

  • K10 (Kessler Psychological Distress Scale)

  • RTCQ (Readiness to Change Questionnaire)

  • Session Reflection and Insight Forms

  • Behavioural Goal Tracking 

Reporting and Outcomes

At completion, participants receive:

  • A Certificate of Completion acknowledging engagement and attendance.

  • A Clinically Reviewed Report outlining participation, insights, progress and outcomes. 

 

This program demonstrates proactive rehabilitation and supports consideration for bail, sentencing, or community supervision outcomes.

With signed consent or court order, attendance verifications can be provided directly to the participant’s lawyer, Police or community corrections officer, or the court.
